Due to an injury sustained in late 2018, I was unable to ride me bike at the beginning of the year - this resulted in me spending a lot of time behind the camera, making a profound impact on my bike-related photography.
Now to the other end of the spectrum - for bikes with slightly skinnier tires - This was my first real effort at shooting road bikes - Focus: MAAP Kit Location: Godley Head.
Please bear with me as we shoot across to the other island for some fantastic riding in Makara Peak, Wellington
Painted by Brendan Sharratt, built by Goat Cycles with a full ensemble of Americana from the steel it self, to the Thomson parts and Easton cranks. Stans/DT Swiss handle the hoops and a ever trusty combo of Shimano Ultegra/XT handle the shifting and stopping duties...
As winter started making its presence known, managed to produce a few longer day missions, taking photos along the way before the reduced daylight hours set in
~ Good Friday Pt. 2 I headed over to the Christchurch Adventure Park to finish the day of pedaling with a few laps, snagging a few shots of by passers while I was at it ~
This trip is close on 'trip of the year' -An epic full day mission in the Cragieburn Forest Park sampling the best that the beech forest cornflakes had to offer with a healthy dose of scree and a side of cutty tracks...
This is a hike-a-bike loop originally formed out of moto ruts and brought to life by Richard Goldsbury, it is an area frought with some political battles due to multiple landowners and none of the trails being 'legal' but I'm going to put it out there that it provides some of the best riding in Canterbury!
Mount 'Mint' Lyndon
Shot at the Christchurch Adventure Park as Local EWS Pro Racer was recovering from a nasty crash for a NZMTBR Web Feature + Magazine Gallery
We had some unusually warm days in the middle of winter - this was one of them. I ventured down the Airtearoa Jump trail with a camera mid-ride hopeful for some riders and was not left high and dry - Matthew Fairbrother (who you will see more of further down) and Zerode Ambassador Rupert Chapman swung on past
Towards the end of winter, I ventured down to Queenstown to sample some of the fresh turns they had sculpted throughout the off-season - before they get destroyed by the masses in summer when the chairlift opens.
Managed to sneak this shot of Tom Martin here into the gallery in the NZ Mountain Biker Mag to
That epic time of year where summer is literally just around the corner, its warming up but its still golden after work....!
I think this is one of my all-time favorites - shot on the all-new jump trail at the Christchurch Adventure Park right before it opened the next day at CAPs Spring Celebration event. 'Twas the last evening before daylight savings time kicked in, and features trail builder Ben Kemp throwing down a tidy roost out of his own sculpted berms.
This was pretty cool, local pro for Norco Factory racing, Sam 'Blenki' Blenkinsop was back in town and in conjunction with the Spring Celebration event at the Christchurch Adventure park organised a kids ride - a chance to a lap of the hill with Blenki...
All-time. The pinnacle. I am still the most stoked about these photos. I gave a brand new lens, a 70-200 f/2.8 a baptism of fire pumping out about 2,500 frames in the space of a few hours and walked 12km with a 12kg camera pack...
